Additional information

No reliable data is available regarding skin and eye irritation for anhydrous aluminium chloride. The test substance is classified as corrosive (C, R34) according to Annex I to the Directive 67/548/EEC, and H314 (Skin corr. 1B) according to Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. This classification was confirmed in a Corrositex® Biobarrier Membrane test (OECD 435) (BASF SE, 2015).

It is hydrolytically instable (see also section 4.8 of the IUCLID) and reacts violently with water under formation of hydrogen chloride which is expected to burn skin and eyes. In accordance with the "column 2" adaptation given in REACH Annex VII, testing for skin and eye irritation was omitted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The legal classification as corrosive (C, R34) according to Annex I to the Directive 67/548/EEC, and H314 (Skin corr. 1B) according to Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 is assumed.
