Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Sodium molybdate is not auto-flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, self-ignition is not considered to be of relevance for this substance, since this would require heat to be developed either by reaction of this substance with oxygen or by exothermic decomposition and which is not lost rapidly enough to the surroundings. Sodium molybdate contains molybdenum in its highest oxidation state (+VI) included in stable, crystalline matrix together with sodium cations. It is intrinsically not combustible and can safely be assumed not to be ignitable or auto-flammable up to the melting point of 687 °C for anhydrous sodium molybdate or up to the decomposition temperature of 100 °C for sodium molybdate dihydrate. In conclusion, the conduct of further experimental verification is not considered to be required.
