Description of key information

The density of the xylene isomers ranges from 0.86 to 0.88 g/cm3 at 25°C. The density of m-xylene is 0.8598 g/cm3 at 25°C, of p-xylene is 0.8565 g/cm3 at 25°C and of o-xylene is 0.8755 g/cm3 at 25°C.

The mean value is 0.87 g/cm3.

Additional information

The CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The data are supported by results from the Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006), which gives densities for m-xylene, o-xylene and p-xylene of 0.8684 g/cm3, 0.8801 g/cm3 and 0.86104 g/cm3 at 25°C, respectively.
