Description of key information

The aerobic degradation of the test item was assessed according to the ISO guideline 14593 using the CO2 headspace test. The test item was biodegraded by 89 % after 28 days (including the 10d-window). Therefore it can be concluded that the test item is readily biodegradable. Further, the anaerobic biodegradability of the test item was assessed according to the ECETOC anaerobic biodegradation guideline. Under the conditions of this test, the test item was partially inherently anaerobic degradable (total degradation: 38.9 +/- 15.9 %).

Additional information

The aerobic degradation of the test item was assessed according to the ISO guideline 14593 using the CO2 headspace test. The test item was biodegraded 89 % after 28 days. The validity criteria were met. The time frame (degradation limit: 60 % CO2 evolution) was reached not later than 10 days after the time the biological degradation exessed 10 % CO2 evolution. Therefore it can be concluded that the test item is readily biodegradable. The reference substance sodium benzoate revealed 99 % CO2 evolution after 14 days.

Further, ananaerobic biodegradation study of the test item according to the ECETOC anaerobic biodegradation guideline was performed.Under the conditions of this test the test item was partially inherently anaerobic degradable (total degradation: 38.9 +/- 15.9 %).The total anaerobic biodegradation was asessed using both the biogas evolution and the production of DIC (dissolved inorganic carbon).
