Qualifier:

Deviations:

Type of method:
column elution method
Water solubility:
< 4 µg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 6.5 - <= 7.7
Details on results:
The limit of detection of the analytical method was estimated to be approximately 4 µg/L.

The calibration was found to be linear over the range 0 to 100 µg/L of standard tin solutions with a regression coefficient of 0.9967. The limit of detection of the analytical method was estimated to be approximately 4 µg/L. This was the lowest standard concentration that produced a response above background levels. An acceptable mean recovery value of 84 % was determined from a series of fortified control solutions prepared at levels approximately 5 and 10 times the analytical limit of detction. Blank control samples were analysed and confirmed the absence of significant interference.

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results: insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L)
Tin metal (15 - 28 µm) is considered to be insoluble in water.
Executive summary:

Tin metal (15 - 28 µm) was determined to have a water solubility value of less than 4 µg/L at 20 ºC, which was the limit of detection for the analytical method, and is considered to be insoluble in water.

Description of key information

One GLP study is available which was performed in line with OCED guideline 105. One handbook reference is also available, for which legitimate access is possible, along with an IUCLID dataset and MSDS for which access is not possible (nor required)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
0.004 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Data in the public domain suggest that tin is insoluble. This is confirmed by a study performed in line with OCED guideline 105 and carried out to GLP which produced a water solubility value of 4 µg/L at 20 ºC. This value was the limit of detection of the analytical method. The water solubility of tin is anticipated to be much lower in reality.
