Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data with the target substance were available. A weight of evidence approach with the read across source substance melamine (CAS 108-78-1) is applied.

A study (Hauck, 1964) with the read across source substance melamine (CAS 108 -78 -1) was performed. Please refer section 13 for the read across justification. Melamine solutions (ca. 490 mg melamine/ kg soil) perfusing through silty clay loam soil slightly delayed the rate of nitrate formation from added ammonium by ca. 2 days.

According to REACH Annex IX 9.4 studies investigating the effects on terrestrial organisms do not need to be conducted if direct and indirect exposure to the soil compartment is unlikely. The Mackay Modelling shows that the soil is no target compartment for melamine. Melamine is distributed only to the water (95 %) and to the air (5 %). Furthermore, melamine has a low potential to absorb to soil. Based on the low n-octanol/water partition coefficient also the adsorption to soil or sediment is expected to be low (Koc < 21 L/kg; Log Koc < 1.3).
