Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:

no
Type of method:
other: Determination of the coldness stability of the test substance was performed with kryomat
Conclusions:
The test of the coldness stability of TBPPI shows that TBPPI is stable down to a temperature of -25 °C.
Executive summary:

Although the presented study does not measure the freezing point of tert- Butylperoxypivalate (TBPPI), it can still give a direction to a foreseen freezing temperature or range. The presented study examined the stability of tert-Butylperoxyisobutyrat 75 % in isododecane to coldness. The determination of the coldness stability of the test substance was performed with kryomat. The results showed that TBPPI is stable at a temperature of -25 °C, no changes in appearance and form (crystallization) were observed, meaning that the expected freezing point would be below -25 °C. Based on this result a performance of a freezing point measurement study was waived as according to column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.1, determination of melting point / freezing point does not need to be conducted the freezing point is expected to be lower than -20 °C.

Description of key information

The melting / freezing point study was waived according to column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.1 as the freezing point of tert-Butylperoxypivalate (TBPPI) is expected to be lower than -20 °C. This temperature evaluation was based on a study that examined the stability of TBPPI to coldness, showing no crystallization at -25 °C. Therefore an freezing temperature below -25 °C is expected.
