Sieving analysis:

As it was not possible to divide the representative sample by processing it on the Retsch Sample Rotating Divider PT100, the size analysis was done on five manual sampling from the representative sample obtained on the Restch Rotating Tube Divider PK1000.

Average results for these five samples were presented here after (weight % for a particle size class):

- 4 -TBC flakes are in major part with sizes in the range 1000 to 5000 µm (61.5% weight)

- 36.0% weight > 5000 µm

- Very little fraction of fines < 100 µm is collected: 0.04% weight (see laser diffusion analysis)

Granulometric analysis Laser Diffraction Sympatec of fines < 100 µm obtained by sieving analysis:

Detector R4 was used for the fine particles < 100 µm separated during sieving tests (operating range from 1.8 µm to 350 µm).

X10 = 35.9 µm

X50 = 96.3 µm

X90 = 184.8 µm

Fines < 100 µm = 54.0 % w/w

Fragility of particles:

Fragility tests were realized on flakes products with internal sieving method.

Results on fragility were the particle size distribution compared with standard sieving analysis described above. Average results were presented for 2 measurements.

Flakes of 4 -TBC were not fragile, 95.2% weight were kept in their original size.

No more generation of fines < 100 µm by attrition.

Conclusions:
Particle size distribution of 4-tert-butylpyrocatechol was characterized through sieving. The majority of flakes were in the range of 1000 to 5000 µm (and higher).
Very little quantity of flakes below 100 µm was present (0.04%).
Executive summary:

In a study (Laboratory LDIPH, 2010), the particle size of 4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol was characterized through sieving.

The majority of flakes were in the range of 1000 to 5000 µm (and higher). Very little quantity of flakes below 100 µm was present (0.04%).
