Additional information

The acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the test substance was investigated according to OECD Guideline 202 with Daphnia magna as test organisms, which is a freshwater invertebrate representative of a wide variety of natural habitats, and can therefore be considered as an important non-target organism in freshwater ecosystems (Vryenhoef and Mullee, 2012). The study was conducted under certificated GLP compliance. In-house laboratory cultures of the test animals were used, whereby young daphnids, less than 24 h old were used for testing. These daphnids were not individually identified and received no food. The test concentration to be used in the definitive test was determined by an initial and second range-finding test. Based on the results, the definitive test was conducted with the following test concentrations: 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L. Water Acommodated Fractions (WAFs) were prepared for testing, based on the complex nature and low aqueous solubility. Four replicate test and control vessels were applied. The test preparations were not renewed and no feeding and aeration was performed. The vessels were covered to reduce evaporation and maintained at 21.0 °C in a temperature controlled room with a photoperiod of 16 h light and 8 h darkness with 20 min dawn and dusk transition periods for a test duration of 48 hours.

Potassium dichromate was used as positive control, resulting in an EC50(48h) of 1.1 mg/L and a corresponding NOEC of 0.56 mg/L. For analytical monitoring, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used. The EL50(48h) value for the test substance was determined as 91 mg/L with 95 % confidence limits of 76 - 110 mg/L. The NOELR(48h) is 56 mg/L. 24h-values are reported as: EL50 > 100 mg/L and the NOELR was 100 mg/L. All results are based on loading rates WAF.
