Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Tripropylene glycol methyl ether does not have PBT or vPvB Properties.

Tripropylene glycol methyl ether (TPGME) meets the criteria for ready biodegradation passing the 10 day window in an OECD 301 F. Degradation based on oxygen consumption reached 60 % after 10 days. The formation of CO2reached 51% indicating substantial mineralisation of tripropylene glycol methyl ether.

Tripropylene glycol methyl ether has a low log Kow (log Kow = 0.08) and is readily biodegradable, which indicates that tripropylene glycol methyl ether offers little potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms, and will not bioaccumulate.

Measured aquatic toxicity data indicate that tripropylene glycol methyl ether presents a low toxicity hazard to aquatic species. All EC50/LC50 values (fish, daphnia and algae) are > 1000 mg/l.
