Toxicity to microorganisms:
Results from a short-term toxicity study with a population of microorganisms from a sewage treatment plant show that DIDP, an analog to DTDP, does not inhibit respiration at a high concentration, in excess of its water solubility. Results from a short-term toxicity study with Photobacterium phosphoreum, show that DIDP, an analog to DTDP, does not cause toxicity to an aquatic bacterium at a high concentration, in excess of its water solubility.

The results of short-term toxicity studies for toxicity to sewage treatment organisms and microorganisms are reported as EC50and NOEC values. The NOEC values from these studies represent the highest concentration tested and measured under the conditions of the study.

The data used to characterize the microbial toxicity of di-isoundecyl phthalate (DIUP) ester are for di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP) ester, which is an analog to DIUP. Results of studies with DIDP suggest that DIUP will not cause toxic effects to bacteria at levels equivalent to and above its maximum attainable solubility. DIUP and DIDP both contain branched alkyl groups. Therefore, because of the structural similarity between these substances and the similar biological behavior of high molecular weight phthalate esters in general, data for the analog can be used to characterize the biological effects of DIUP for this endpoint.
