Description of key information

The flammability of the substance was assessed in contact with water and air. The studies were conducted under GLP according to guideline methods EC Test A12 and A13. The substance is not classified as highly flammable in terms of its pyrophoric properties and reactivity with water.
The flashpoint of this liquid substance was also examined under GLP according to EC Test E9. The flash point of the substance was determined to be 79+/-4°C. The substance is not classified as flammable in terms of its flashpoint.

Additional information

Contact with air: There were no signs of ignition during dropping or throughout the 5 minute observation period. There were also no signs of ignition or charring of the filter paper throughout the 5 minute observation period. The test substance does not spontaneously ignite on contact with air at ambient temperatures. The test substance is not classified as highly flammable in terms of its pyrophoric properties.

Contact with water: The substance does not evolve highly flammable gases on contact with water. The test substance is not classified as highly flammable in terms of its reactivity with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not classified for flammability based on its flashpoint, pyrophoric properties and reactivity with water.

With reference to Directive 92/32/EEC, and within the meaning of the definitions given in Article 2(2), paragraphs 2(c), (d) and (e):

1) the test substance is not classified as : 'Extremely Flammable' as its flash point as detailed in IUCLID section 4.11 is not less than 0°C.

2) the substance is not classified as 'Highly Flammable' as its flash point is not less than 21°C. Moreover, the results of the Flammability (Contact with Water) Test show that the test substance does not evolve highly flammable gases in dangerous quantities on contact with water and the results of the Pyrophoric Properties show that the test substance does not ignite on contact with air at ambient temperature.

3) the test substance is not classified as 'Flammable' as the flash point is not less than or equal to 55°C.
