Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

the study does not need to be conducted because a long-term aquatic toxicity study on invertebrates is available

Description of key information

A long-term toxicity study with aquatic invertebrates with EDTA-CuK2 is available. The results of this long-term daphnia study with EDTA-CuK2 is read across to the target substance EDTA-Cu(NH4)2. A long term test result with the test item is considered to be available in the registration dossier which therefore provides an adequate and reliable coverage of the key parameter(s) of the corresponding OECD TG 211. Based on these considerations, the requirements of Column 2 of Annex VII, Section 9.1.1, second indent are met.

Additional information

Besides to the availability of a long-term test with EDTA-Cu(NH4)2 (read across from source substance EDTA-CuK2), there are two reliable supporting 48h EC50 values for invertebrates available which have been derived from related EDTA complexes, EDTA-FeK, Borrmann, 2007 and EDTA-FeNa, Palmer, 2002, from which the first is based on measured data. This study from Borrman resulted in an 48h EC50 of 100.9 mg/L EDTA-FeNa. Recalculated to EDTA-Cu(NH4)2 this would result in an 48h EC50 of 97.88 mg/L (387.8/399.75 x 100.9). This result is in good agreement with the results observed in the long term daphnia test with EDTA-CuK2.
