Additional information

Acute Oral toxicity

Currently, there are no studies available. Nevertheless, there are two reliable studies existing, which may serve as read across: rac-1 -Phenyl-propylamine (CAS 2941-20-0) and (S)-1 -Phenyl-propylamine (CAS 3789-59-1).

The first study was accomplished according to OECD 423. The acute oral toxicity of rac-1-Phenyl-propylamine (read across, CAS 2941-20-0) was determined to be 200-500 mg/kg bw. Thus, in accordance to the GHS (Globally Harmonised System), the substance (R)-1-Phenylpropylamine should be classified in the hazard category 3. [BASF, 1998]

The second study investigated the acute oral toxicity of (S)-1-Phenylpropylamine (read across, CAS 3789-59-1) in rats, given doses of 200 mg/kg bw and 2000 mg/kg bw by gavage. In accordance to the GHS (Globally Harmonised System), the substance (R)-1-Phenylpropylamine should be classified in the hazard category 3.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Acute Oral toxicity

Based on the available data for rac-1 -Phenyl-propylamine (CAS 2941-20-0, read across) and (S)-1 -Phenyl-propylamine (CAS 3789-59-1, read across), (R)-1-Phenyl-propylamine is subject to C&L:

according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC: acute oral tox. 3, H301 (toxic)

according to Directive 67/548/EEC: acute oral tox.: R22 (harmful)

Acute Inhalation toxicity

Currently, there is no information available to cover this endpoint.

Acute Dermal toxicity

Currently, there is no information available to cover this endpoint.
