Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation: Move them into the fresh air and place them in a posture which facilitates breathing. Loosen the patient’s clothes and give resuscitation if they are not breathing or breathing very weakly. Consult a doctor if the patient is feeling unwell.

Skin contact: Wash skin immediately. If the skin is irritated, or there is a rash or the appearance of the skin has changed consult a doctor. Take off contaminated clothes and wash them with a large amount of water and soap.

Eye contact: Wash eyelid and eyeball immediately and thoroughly with clean running water for more than 15 minutes.  Consult a doctor if irritation persists.

Ingestion :Rinse mouth with water and give water to drink provided person is conscious.  Do vomit at once. Consult with a doctor immediately for treatment if the patient is feeling unwell.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media Powder or foam extinguisher, sprinkler, water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical. Extinguishing media which must not be used No information available. Special exposure hazards Highly flammable: easily ignited by heat, sparks or fire. Container(s) could explode when heated. Flammable and combustible chemical. Special extinguishing procedures Do not put water into the container(s) or onto non-burning material. Remove container(s) from the area of the fire providing it is safe to do so. Having extinguished the fire, cool down the container(s) thoroughly with large amounts of water. Use suitable extinguishing media according to the nature of fire. For a small scale fire, water, powder (dry chemical), carbon dioxide or dry sand may be used. For a larger scale fire, exclusion of air by the use of extinguishing media may be effective. Special protective equipment for firefighters Wear protective clothes and equipment to cover eyes, nose and mouth, e.g., face mask. Wear a respirator and special clothes to protect from chemicals. Start fire-fighting procedures upwind to avoid inhaling vapour or smoke.

Accidental release measures

Personal safety precautions, protective equipment and emergency measures

Stay upwind. Ventilate enclosed places before entering. Wear suitable protective equipment to collect the spilt material, taking care not to disperse it during collection. Cordon off the affected area. Do not allow unauthorised persons into the area. Do not touch any broken containers or leaked material without wearing protective equipment. Remove immediately all leaked material, which could catch fire in the surrounding areas.

Environmental safety precautions

Do not release into the environment. Take extra care to prevent leaks entering river(s) or stream(s), which could cause damage to the environment. Report to a relevant authority immediately leakage enters river(s) or stream(s).

Methods for collecting and neutralising

Enclose the leaked material and do not spray with water unless instructed to do so. Soak up using dry earth, sand or non-flammable material, and transfer to container(s). For small amounts, soak up the leaked material with charcoal or dry sand, or mop up with waste cloths, then incinerate or place into airtight container(s). For a large amount, mound dry earth to enclose the leakage to prevent from spreading out. Collect into airtight container(s) using a pump or a shovel and transfer to a safe place for treatment.

Methods and equipment for containment and cleaning

For a small amount, cover the leakage with dry earth, sand or noncombustible material and a sheet of plastic to prevent from spreading out. Do not expose the leakage to rain. Block the leak if it safe to do so.

Preventive measures for secondary fire

Do not let the leakage contact water. Remove flammable materials, e.g., wood, paper or oil, near the leakage. Prevent the leakage from entering into drainage, sewerage, basement or closed areas. Remove all ignition

Handling and storage

Handling

Local/whole ventilation

Use local ventilation when working with material at elevated temperatures.

Safety handling precautions

Wash hand and face thoroughly after handling.  Do not turn the container(s) upside down or either drop or drag them while handling.  Take extra care not to touch the material which may cause irritation if it comes in contact with eyes or mouth.  Avoid skin contact.  Do not inhale mist, vapour or spray.  Use it only outside or in an area with good ventilation.   Wear suitable protective equipment.

Storage

Storage room design Walls, columns and floors of the storage must be fire resistant.  Do not expose the material to direct sunlight and store in a cool and well-ventilated place.  Storage conditions Seal container(s) tightly and store in a well-ventilated place. Do not allow containers to expose to direct sunlight and store a cool and dark place.  Do not store the material with strong acids or solvents nearby.  Materials of containers and packages No

Exposure controls / personal protection

Occupational exposure controls

Facilities A ventilation system must be installed to keep the exposure concentration below the limit value. In operation, use a closed system or equipment, or local ventilation system where possible. Protective equipment   Respiratory protection Dust mask. Wear suitable respiratory protective apparatus.  Hand protection Wear suitable protective gloves.  Eye protection Wear suitable protective goggles or face visor.

Skin/body protection Wear suitable protective clothes. Personal hygiene Wash hands thoroughly after handling

Stability and reactivity

Flammable.     Stable at room temperature.     Degradable at high temperature.

Heating/burning:  Degradation at 300ºC or higher during long exposure to heat produces carbon oxides. The vapour produced may mix with air to produce an explosive gas.

Exposure to water:  No hazard

Exposure to air:  No hazard at normal temperature The vapour is heavier than air.

May react with acid, strongly oxidising or strongly reducing materials, and produce heat.

Conditions to avoid Avoid friction or rough treatment, which may cause fire. Avoid ignition sources such as heat, naked flame, sparks, or flammable materials.

Materials to avoid: Combustible or strongly reducing materials, acids or bases, metals

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon monoxide.

Disposal considerations

Waste/residue Contract disposal to an industrial waste treatment company approved by the local authority or a local authority that undertakes waste treatment. Comply with waste treatment regulations or standards of the relevant local authority.

Contaminated containers/packages Treat in compliance with waste treatment regulations or standards of the relevant local authority.
