Preliminary test


From 300 °C upwards the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 412 °C the sample weight had decreased by 25 %. After the experiment, a black residue remained in the sample container (original colour: reddishbrown). The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test substance.


Main study


A small endothermic peak between 50 °C and 150 °C was observed followed by a strong exothermic effect starting at 175 °C. The small effect was possibly due to evaporation of water since the test substance is hygroscopic. The strong exothermic effect was due to reaction/decomposition of the test substance. After the experiment, a black residue remained in the sample container. No boiling of the test substance was found.

Conclusions:
Boiling of FAT 40854/A was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started > 175 °C. Based on this, the test substance has no boiling temperature.

In a GLP-compliant test melting point of FAT 40854/A was determined according to EU method A.2 and OECD guideline 103 using differential scanning calorimetery method. Melting of FAT 40854/A was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started >175°C. Based on this, the test substance has also no boiling temperature.
