- Preparation of inoculum for exposure: The sewage sludge was treated by centrifugation and washing with drinking water (4x times).
- Initial biomass concentration: 3,5 g dry weight/L (1.4 g dry weight/L per test vessel)
Study design
- Test type:
- static
- Water media type:
- freshwater
- Limit test:
- no
- Total exposure duration:
- 3 h
Test conditions
- Test temperature:
- 18-22 °C, test start 18-18.5 °C, during O2 measurement 19-20 °C
- pH:
- 8.1
- Dissolved oxygen:
- 24.32-24.68 mg O2/ L*h

Results and discussion
Effect concentrations
- Key result
- Duration:
- 3 h
- Dose descriptor:
- EC50
- Effect conc.:
- > 260 mg/L
- Nominal / measured:
- nominal
- Conc. based on:
- test mat.
- Basis for effect:
- inhibition of total respiration
- Remarks on result:
- other:
- Remarks:
- The test substance revealed no inhibition on the respiration of sewage sludge.
- Details on results:
- In the tested concentration range of 20 to 262.2 mg/L test substance, no inhibition on the respiration of sewage sludge by the test substance has been observed. Hence, a EC10 or an EC50 could not be determined.
- Results with reference substance (positive control):
- 3,5-Dichlorophenol has been tested with a concentration of 5, 7, and 10 mg/L and an EC50 of 6.6 mg/L was measured.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- In the tested concentration range of 20; 41,2; 85,8; 133 and 262,2 mg / L, neither EC10 nor EC50 was achieved. The test substance did not have an inhibitory effect on the respiration of the activated sludge.
