for toluene!
- 4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
No further relevant information available.
Fire-fighting measures
- 5.1 Extinguishing media
- Suitable extinguishing agents
CO2, extinguishing powder or water jet. Fight larger fires with water jet or alcohol-resistant foam.
- For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents Do not use a heavy water stream.
- 5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Can be released in case of fire
Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
Vapours heavier than air.
Can form explosive gas-air mixtures.
- 5.3 Advice for firefighters
- Protective equipment:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Do not inhale explosion gases or combustion gases.
Wear full protective suit.
- Additional information
Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.
Combustible.
Accidental release measures
- 6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Ensure adequate ventilation
Wear protective equipment (described in section 8). Keep unprotected persons away.
Avoid contact with substance.
Do not inhale fumes/aerosol.
- 6.2 Environmental precautions:
Do not allow product to reach sewage system or water bodies.
Prevent material from reaching sewage system, holes and cellars.
Inform respective authorities in case product reaches water or sewage system.
- 6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders).
Dispose of contaminated material as waste according to item 13.
Ensure adequate ventilation.
Handling and storage
- 7.1 Precautions for safe handling Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.
- Information about protection against explosions and fires:
Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke.
Protect against electrostatic charges.
Fumes can combine with air to form an explosive mixture.
- 7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
- Storage
- Requirements to be met by storerooms and containers: Store in cool location.
- Information about storage in one common storage facility: Not required.
- Further information about storage conditions:
Keep container tightly closed.
Store in cool, dry conditions in well sealed containers.

Exposure controls / personal protection
- 8.1 Control parameters
- Components with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace:
108-88-3 toluene
OEL Short-term value: 560 mg/m3, 150 ml/m3
Long-term value: 375 mg/m3, 100 ml/m3
- 8.2 Exposure controls
- Personal protective equipment
- General protective and hygienic measures
The usual precautionary measures should be adhered to general rules for handling chemicals.
Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and food.
Wash hands during breaks and at the end of the work.
Avoid contact with the eyes and skin.
Do not inhale fumes
- Breathing equipment:
In case of brief exposure or low pollution use breathing filter apparatus. In case of intensive or longer
exposure use breathing apparatus that is independent of circulating air.
- Recommended filter device for short term use:
Combination filter ABEK (DIN 3181)
Filter A (acc. to EN 141) for organic vapours and gases; boiling piont > 65 °C
- Protection of hands:
Protective gloves (EN 374).
The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation.
- Material of gloves Fluorocarbon rubber (Viton)
- Penetration time of glove material
The exact break trough time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be
observed.
- Eye protection:
Tightly sealed safety glasses.
- Body protection: Protective work clothing.

Disposal considerations
- 13.1 Waste treatment methods
- Recommendation
After prior treatment product has to be disposed of in an incinerator for hazardous waste under adherence to
the regulations pertaining to the disposal of particularly hazardous waste.
- Uncleaned packagings:
- Recommendation:
Disposal must be made according to official regulations.
Packaging must be disposed of in compliance with country-specific regulations or must be passed to a
packaging return system.
Empty contaminated packagings thoroughly. They can be recycled after thorough and proper cleaning.
Packagings that cannot be cleaned are to be disposed of in the same manner as the product.
