Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling point/boiling range)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
According to ASTM D850, a carefully controlled distillation of aromatic hydrocarbons and related materials is carried out wherein temperature readings are taken at the initial drop of distillate and at intervals up to and including the dry point - defined as when the liquid just disappears from the flask. A calibrated ASTM distillation thermometer is used. Results are reported at 760 mm Hg. Results are in close agreement with simulated distillation based on published normal boiling points of the pure isomers and Antoine coefficients.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
distillation method
Boiling pt.:
>= 209 - <= 211 °C
Atm. press.:
760 mm Hg

Description of key information

198 ° - 220 °C

(several materials tested according to DIN EN ISO 3405 or OECD 103)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The reported values for boiling points for Tar acids, xylenol fraction are in the range between 198 °C and 220 °C. The boiling point of a particular substance will depend on the constituents.
