First-aid measures
- General advice:
In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
- Following inhalation:
Remove to fresh air, keep the patient warm and rest. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Give nothing by mouth. If unconscious, place in the recovery position and seek medical advice.
- Following skin contact:
Remove contaminated cloth. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or use a proprietary skin cleaner. Do NOT use solvents or thinners.
- Following eye contact:
Contact lenses should be removed. Irrigate copiously with clean, fresh water for at least 10 minutes, holding the eyelids apart, and seek medical advice.
- Following ingestion:
If accidentally swallowed obtain immediate medical attention. Keep at rest. Do NOT induce vomiting.
- Most important symptoms and effects: To date, no known symptoms. No effects known so far.
Fire-fighting measures
- Suitable extinguishing media:
alcohol resistant foam, CO2 , powder, water spray/mist.
- Unsuitable extinguishing media:
water jet.
- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
Fire will produce dense black smoke containing hazardous substances of combustion. Exposure to decomposition products may be a hazard to health. Appropriate self-contained breathing equipment may be required. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray. Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.
- Advice for fire fighter: Use self contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
- Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Exclude sources of ignition and ventilate the area. Exclude non-essential personnel. Avoid breathing vapours and contact with skin and eyes.
- Environmental precautions:
Prevent spills to enter drains or watercourses. If the product enters drains or sewers the local water company should be contacted immediately; in the case of contamination of streams, rivers or lakes, the National Rivers Authority.
- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible absorbent materials, e.g. sand, earth, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth and place in a suitable container. The contaminated area should be cleaned up immediately with a suitable decontaminate. One possible (flammable) decontaminate comprises: water (45 parts by volume) / ethanol or isopropanol (50 parts) / concentrated (d:0.880) ammonia solution (5 parts). A non-flammable alternative is sodium carbonate (5 parts) / water (95 parts). Add the same decontaminate to any residues and allow to stand for several days in a non-sealed container until no further reaction occurs.
Handling and storage
- Precautions for safe handling:
Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. They may form explosive mixtures with air. Prevent the creation of flammable or explosive concentrations of vapour in air and avoid vapour concentrations higher than the occupational exposure limits. Additionally, the product should only be used in areas from which all naked lights and other sources of ignition have been excluded. Electrical equipment should be protected to the appropriate standard. Keep the container tightly closed. Exclude sources of heat and open flame. Non-sparking tools should be used. Avoid skin and eye contact. Avoid inhalation of vapour and spray mist. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in areas of storage and use. Never use pressure to empty: the container is not a pressure vessel. Always keep in containers made of the same material as the supply container. Good housekeeping standards and regular safe removal of waste materials will minimise risks of spontaneous combustion and other fire hazards. The product may charge electrostatically. Use earthing leads when transferring from one container to another. Operators should wear anti-static footwear and clothing and floors should be electrically conductive. The Manual Handling Operations Regulations may apply to the handling of containers of this product. Refer to the guide weight indicated in the container when carrying out assessments.
- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Observe the label precautions. Store between 5 and 30 ºC in a dry, well ventilated place away from sources of heat, ignition and direct sunlight. No smoking. Prevent unauthorized access. Containers which are opened should be properly resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. The principles contained in the HSE's guidance note Storage and Packaged Dangerous Substances should be observed when storing this product. Store separately from oxidizing agents and strongly alkaline and strongly acidic materials, amines, alcohols and water.
Handle the substance under strictly controlled conditions according to Article 18(4) of REACH Regulation. Rigorous containment should be achieved.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Technical protection measures: Provide adequate ventilation. Where reasonably practicable this should be achieved by the use of local exhaust ventilation and good general extraction. If these are not sufficient to maintain concentrations of particulates and/or solvent vapors below the relevant occupational exposure limits, suitable respiratory protective equipment should be worn.
Organisational protection measures: Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in areas of storage and use. Good housekeeping standards and regular safe removal of waste materials will minimise risks of spontaneous combustion and other fire hazards.
Hand protection: It must be used protective gloves.
Body protection: Grossly contaminated clothing should be removed and the skin washed with soap and water or a proprietary skin cleaner.
Eye protection: Eye protection should be worn.
Respiratory protection: Respiratory protective equipment should be worn.
The substance is used under strictly controlled conditions during its whole lifecycle as described under Article 18 (4) and Section 2.1 of the Guidance for Intermediates. The substance should be rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle and procedural and control technologies should be in place in order to minimize emissions and any resulting exposure as described under Article 18(4). Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used in cases of accidents and where waste is generated. The PPE may be also used as a good practice.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity
: No dangerous reactions known under normal conditions of use.
Chemical stability
: Stable under the recommended storage and handling conditions.
Hazardous decomposition products: In case of fire, hazardous decomposition products such as smoke, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen may be generated.
Disposal considerations
Residues in emptied containers should be neutralized with decontaminant (see Section Accidental release measures). Do not allow into drains or water courses or dispose of where ground or surface waters may be affected. Wastes, including emptied containers, are controlled wastes and should be disposed of in accordance with regulations made under the Control of Pollution Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
Using the information provided in the MSDS, advice should be obtained from the Waste Regulation Authority whether the special waste regulations apply.
