Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Skin contact: Remove all contaminated clothes and footwear immediately unless stuck to skin. Wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention. There may be irritation and redness at the site of contact. An itchy rash may occur at the site of contact. A decontamination shower should be available on the premises.
Eye contact: Bathe the eye with running water for 15 minutes. Consult a doctor. There may be irritation and redness. The eyes may water profusely. Eye bathing equipment should be available on the premises.
Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. If conscious, give half a litre of water to drink immediately.
Transfer to hospital as soon as possible. There may be soreness and redness of the mouth and throat. Nausea and stomach pain may occur. There may be vomiting.
Inhalation: Remove casualty from exposure ensuring one's own safety whilst doing so. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention. There may be irritation of the throat with a feeling of tightness in the chest. Exposure may cause coughing or wheezing. Headaches or general malaise may result.
Immediate effects can be expected after short-term exposure. Sensitising effects may occur following the second or subsequent exposure.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media: Water spray. Carbon dioxide. Alcohol resistant foam. Dry chemical powder. Use water spray to cool containers. Do not use a high volume water jet.
Exposure hazards: In combustion emits toxic fumes of carbon dioxide / carbon monoxide.
Advice for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Wear protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions: Refer to section 8 of SDS for personal protection details. If outside do not approach from downwind. If outside keep bystanders upwind and away from danger point. Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorised personnel. Remove all incompatible materials as outlined in section 10 of SDS. Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of liquid.
Environmental precautions: Do not discharge into drains or rivers. Contain the spillage using bunding.
Clean-up procedures: Absorb into dry earth or sand. Transfer to a closable, labelled salvage container for disposal by an appropriate method.
Handling and storage
Handling requirements: Avoid direct contact with the substance. Ensure there is sufficient ventilation of the area. Do not handle in a confined space. Avoid the formation or spread of mists in the air.
Storage conditions: Store in cool, well ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed. The floor of the storage room must be impermeable to prevent the escape of liquids. Avoid incompatible materials and conditions - see section 10 of SDS.
Suitable packaging: Glass. Polyethylene. Plastics can vary; test compatibility prior to use. Steel drums.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering measures: Ensure there is sufficient ventilation of the area. Ensure lighting and electrical equipment are not a source of ignition. The floor of the storage room must be impermeable to prevent the escape of liquids.
Respiratory protection: If ventilation is inadequate, wear a respiratory protective device with gas/vapour filter, type A: organic vapours (EN141). Self-contained breathing apparatus must be available in case of emergency.
Hand protection: PVC gloves. Nitrile gloves. Glove break-through times can vary depending on the characteristic of the type of glove used, the exposure time and type of use. Consult your supplier for advice. Gloves should be replaced immediately if signs of degradation are observed. The applicable European Standard is EN 374.
Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields. The applicable European Standard is EN 166. Ensure eye bath is to hand. Use a face-shield / visor when handling bulk quantities.
Skin protection: Protective clothing. Overalls with long sleeves. Antistatic boots. Ensure safety shower is to hand.
Environmental: Storage should be placed inside a fully bunded area of sufficient size to contain the volume plus 10%. Prevent from entering in public sewers or the immediate environment.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity: Stable under recommended transport or storage conditions.
Chemical stability: Stable under normal conditions.
Hazardous reactions: Hazardous reactions will not occur under normal transport or storage conditions.
Decomposition may occur on exposure to conditions or materials listed below.
Conditions to avoid: Sources of ignition. Flames.
Materials to avoid: Strong oxidising agents. Strong acids.
Haz. decomp. products: In combustion emits toxic fumes of carbon dioxide / carbon monoxide.
Disposal considerations
Disposal operations: Transfer to a suitable container and arrange for collection by specialised disposal company.
Disposal of packaging: Arrange for collection by specialised disposal company.
