Description of key information

Under the conditions of the present test Acetoguanamine was not toxic to waste water (activated sludge) bacteria. The inhibition which was caused by the test item Aceteoguanamine did not rise above 67 % in the highest treatment of 1000 mg/L. A NOEC of 100 mg/L was observed and an EC50 of 4500 mg/L was calculated.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
4 500 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
320 mg/L

Additional information

The influence of Acetoguanamine on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated after a contact time of 3 hours.

The study procedures described in this report were based on the OECD guideline No. 209, 2010. In addition, the procedures were designed to meet the test methods of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, Publication No. L142, Part C11.

Two experiments, a range finding pre-test followed by a main study were performed. In the pre-test, the test item was tested uisng five concentrations (ranging from 1000 to 1 mg/L). Duration of the test was three hours. Activated sludge was used as inoculum. It was taken from a domestic sewage treatment plant and washed before usage.

The main study was performed using five concentrations, ranging from 10000 to 100 mg/L. The EC50 of the positive control was determined as 11 mg/L (95 % confidence interval: < 18 mg/L), which lies within the range of 2 - 25 mg/L.

The following results of the test item Acetoguanamine were determined:

3 h NOEC: 100 mg/L

3 h EC10: 320 mg/L (confidence interval = 270 - 420 mg/L)

3 h EC50: 4500 mg/L (confidence interval = 3600 - 5200 mg/L)
