Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
17 Jun - 13 Jul 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The standard A6 Method was not applicable to this test item due to the high indeterminable saturation levels produced. It was therefore not possible to prepare samples at five times the saturation level as recommended in the guideline. No analysis could be performed due to the high solubility producing unfilterable mixtures and thus the water solubility was estimated based on visual inspection.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
> 950 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 10.9 - <= 11.4
Remarks on result:
other: The test item was observed to be miscible in all proportions with water. Temperature 20.0 ± 0.5 °C.
Details on results:
Preliminary test result: water solubility is considered to be miscible in all proportions

Results of the preliminary estimate of water solubility are shown in the following table:

Sample Number

Observations

Concentration % w/w

1

No undissolved test item present.

5.09

2

No undissolved test item present.

48.3

3

No undissolved test item present

The results of the definitive test for the water solubility are shown in the following table:

Sample Number

Observations

Concentration % w/w

pH

1

Clear transparent liquid. No excess test item.

5.49

11.3

2

Clear transparent liquid. No excess test item.

49.6

11.4

3

Clear transparent liquid. No excess test item*.

95.0

10.9

*On initial inspection of the solution, the test item appeared wispy where the solution was unable to have been shaken completely due to the viscous nature of the test item. The solution was subsequently stirred using a glass pipette and as a result, the solution became a single phase solution.

Thus, the water solubility exceeds 95% w/w = 95 g/100 g = 950 g/L (miscible in all proportions)

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): miscible

Description of key information

> 950 g/L; miscible in all proportions at 20 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
950 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Flask method, OECD 105 (visual inspection). Handbook data is supporting a very high solubility.
