Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The data of the acute toxicity to algae is 53.7 mg/L for EC50 (72hr, P. subcapitata, biomass).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
53.7 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
24.4 mg/L

Additional information

In principle, two different information on the acute toxicity to algae of Benzoguanamine are available. In first, an OECD guideline study investigating effects on green algae Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata, and secondly, a peer-reviewed information from the German KBwS (Commission for Evaluation of hazardous substances to Waters) investigating inhibition effects of growth of Desmodesmus subspicatus.Since the latter source is a summary of different toxicological effect values only a detailed evaluation of the reliability of the underlying study is not possible. Thus, the information was rated with a reliability score of 4 (not assignable). The OECD study fulfills the validity criteria according to the guideline and was classified as reliable without restrictions. In the reviewed study a EC50(72h) of 53.7 mg/L for P. subcapitata is stated. This value was used in the further assessment.
