Methane is also expected to have low potential for bioaccumulation andadsorption to soil and sediment based on its measured log Kow of 1.09. Structural analysis of the methane molecule indicates that it is not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment due to the lack of hydrolyzable functional groups.

Methane is expected to be readily biodegradable and is not expected to bioaccumulate or to sorb to soils or sediment. Therefore it is unlikely to persist in the environment.
