The dissolved oxygen was above 60 % saturation and the total hardness 140 - 250 mg/L (as CaCO3), corresponding to 7.8 - 14°dH. The animals were fed with single cell green algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus, former Scenedesmus subspicatus) at least three times a week.

Results with reference substance (positive control):
In order to check the validity of the results, the toxicity of the reference item potassium dichromate was tested at 1.0 and 2.0 mg/L with 20 test organisms per test concentration on 26 May 2015 around the same time period as the study with the test item.
The results indicate an EC50 (24 h) of the reference item potassium dichromate between 1.0 and 2.0 mg/L. Since the results fall within the range recommended by the guideline (OECD 202), the daphnids were suitable for the determination of the toxicological effects of the test item.

After 24 and 48 hours no immobilisation was observed in controls and at 6.25 25.0 mg/L. After 24 hours of exposure 10 % immobilisation was observed at 12.5 mg/L, 50.0 mg/L had 75 % and 100 mg/L 90 % immobilisation.

After 48 hours of exposure immobilisation was still 10 % at 12.5 mg/L. At 25.0 mg/L the immobilisation was 15 %, at 50.0 mg/L 90 %, and at 100 mg/L 100 %. The results are presented inTable 1 andTable 2.

Conclusions:
According to the results of the test, the EC50 (48 h) for 2',4-Bis(methoxycarbonyloxy)-2-brom-acetophenone was determined to be 31.0 mg/L (nominal). The corresponding NOEC (48 h) was 12.5 mg/L (nominal).
Executive summary:

The toxicity of on Daphnia magna 2',4'-Bis(methoxycarbonyloxy)-2-brom-acetophenone was tested in a 48 hour acute immobilisation test. The test was performed static according to OECD Guideline 202 ("Daphnia sp., Acute Immobilisation Test") with concentrations of 0, 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0 and 100 mg/L and twenty organisms per test concentration (4 replicates of 5 animals each) were used.

According to the results of the test, the EC50 (48 h) for immobilisation was determined to be 31.0 mg/L. Tjhe corresponding NOEC (48 h) was 12.5 mg/L.
