The test item shows a boiling (and/or a thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition components) from a subcomponent (ca. 11 wt. % - possibly water of crystallisation) earliest at ca. 103°C (at 981 mbar) according to the definition in the OECD guideline 103.

Conclusions:
HEDP-4Na shows a boiling (and/or a thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition components) from a subcomponent (ca. 11 wt. % - possibly water of crystallisation) beginning at ca.103°C (at 981 mbar) according to the definition in the OECD guideline 103.

Boiling point: HEDP-xK is expected to melt above 450°C

Additional information

The requirement to test the boiling point of HEDP-xK was waived because the substance is expected to have a melting temperature of >450°C (>723 K). This statement is supported by the evidence from a DSC study which demonstrates that the anhydrous form of the parent acid (HEDP-H) has a melting temperature of >450°C. The DSC thermograms show evidence of loss of water at about 100°C.

This conclusion is supported by available data for HEDP-4Na which indicates that the test substance undergoes loss of water from 103°C at 981 mBar.

In available secondary sources to which reliability could not be assigned, aqueous solution of HEDP-xK has a reported initial boiling point of 100°C.
