Additional information

Zirconium carbide is considered to be highly insoluble in water and non-toxic to fish at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. Acute toxicity data for daphnia, algae and activated sludge are not available. However, due to the high unsolubility and evidence from acute toxcity testing in fish, aquatic toxicty is considered unlikely and further testing is considered scientifically unnecessary.

Conclusion on classification

No relevant hazard is identified. The available aquatic toxicity data do not give rise for concern regarding adverse effects of the substance to the environment. Classification of zirconium carbide as hazardous to the aquatic environment is therefore not required.
