NaF is highly reactive and, once released into the environment, is unlikely to remain in its original form for any significant length of time. NaF will rapidly dissociate in aqueous conditions to form sodium and fluoride ions and will further be transformed in air, water, sediment and soil to a variety of other fluorine-containing compounds.
