Description of key information

No immunotoxic effect in host resistance assay and antibody plaque-forming cell assay up to 800 mg/kg bw/d for 5 days by gavage

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

After a 5-day intragastral application of citral to groups of 30 CD-1 mice (0, 200, 400, 800 mg/kg bw/d), 20 of the animals were subjected to a host resistance assay with infection with Listeria monocytogenes, while humoral immunity was measured by the antibody plaque-forming cell (PFC) response to sheep erythrocytes in further 10 mice. Based on these assays, there was no indication of an immunotoxic activity of citral.
