Description of key information

In a context of aquatic hazard, solubility data obtained by the Transformation/Dissolution (TD) testing appraoch according to OECD protocol "OECD Series on Testing and Assessment No. 29" at different pH values are most relevant.

Solubility of Cd and Te was measured at 1mg/l loading according to OECD 29, at pH 6. This pH was chosen based on the results of 24 hrs screening test, showing a highest solubility at pH 6, as compared to pH 8.

Solubility of Cd was 14.1µg Cd/L (CV: 15%) and 23.2 µg Cd/L (CV: 21%) after 7days and 28 days of testing, respectively.

Solubility of Te was 15.7 µg Te/L (CV: 16%) and 25.6 µg Te/L (CV:21%) after 7days and 28 days of testing, respectively.

 

Solubility of CdTe was also determined after the OECD 105 protocol. This test has less relevancy for aquatic ecotoxicity (see below "additional information"). For reasons of completeness, the value for Cd obtained with the latter test is reported below as "key value for chemical safety assessment".

Additional information

Solubility of the substance was determined according to standard protocol OECD 105. The experimental average value for water solubility of Cd in the substance is 0.8 mg/l at a pH range of 5.79 -6.21. So, the substance is considered slightly soluble.

 

However, more relevant for aquatic ecotoxicity of CdTe are the transformation/Dissolution data obtained at different pH values according to OECD protocol "OECD Series on Testing and Assessment No. 29" ("OECD 29"), where average solubility of Cd and Te is measured on CdTe tested at 1mg/l loading (see above "description of key information").
