Description of key information

The log Kow value (0.162) indicates that nitromethane has a very low potential to bioaccumulate in aquatic organisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The bioaccumulation of nitroethane was assessed in screening tests in fish and algal, which both have deficiencies in reporting of key information for the interpretation of the results. The fish study may be considered as a screen assessment since the exposure duration is too short to account for uptake and depuration. Based on the phy-chem properties (log Kow=0.162), the substance has a very low potential for bioaccumulation.
