- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- no
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Burning time:
- > 8 min
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- According to the screening test method, a material can be classified as a flammable solid if the flame propagates along a 200mm length of the powder train in 2 minutes. As these conditions are not met it can be concluded that magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is not classified as a flammable solid and no further testing is required.

The material was observed to ignite and propagate flame.
The flame propagated along 200mm of the powder train after 8 minutes.
According to the screening test method, a material can be classified as a flammable solid if the flame propagates along a 200 mm length of the powder train in 2 minutes. As these conditions are not met it can be concluded that magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is not classified as a flammable solid and no further testing is required.
Description of key information
Magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is not classified as highly flammable solid, has no pyrophoric properties and does not emit flammable gases in water.

Additional information
Flammability solids
According to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids, screening test), a material can be classified as a flammable solid if the flame propagates along a 200 mm length of the powder train in 2 minutes. As these conditions are not met, it can be concluded that magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is not classified as a flammable solid and no further testing is required.
Pyrophoric properties
According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted because magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
Flammability in contact with water
According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted because magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture. The water solubility of magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate was calculated as 107.412 ± 5 g/L at 20 °C.
Justification for classification or non-classification
