First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

- General advice: Immediate medical attention is required. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

- Inhalation: Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of vapours. Avoid direct contact with skin. Use barrier to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Immediate medical attention is required. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

- Skin Contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. Immediate medical attention is required. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. If skin irritation persists, call a physician. Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.

- Eye contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water. After initial flushing, remove any contact lenses and continue flushing for at least 15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. Call a physician immediately. (Get medical attention immediately if irritation persists.).

- Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician or poison control center immediately.

- Self-protection of the first aider: Use personal protective equipment as required. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; give artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

- Suitable extinguishing media: Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

- Unsuitable extinguishing media: Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Avoid creating dust. Dust can form an explosive mixture with air. In the event of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. May cause sensitization by inhalation and skin contact. Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating and toxic gases and vapours. Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating and toxic gases and vapours. Do not allow run-off from fire-fighting to enter drains or water courses. Run-off may pollute waterways.

Hazardous combustion products

Carbon oxides. Hazardous metal fumes and oxides. Hydrocarbons.

Advice for firefighters

Wear self contained breathing apparatus for fire fighting if necessary.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

- Personal precautions: Use personal protective equipment as required. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Avoid creating dust. Dust can form an explosive mixture with air.

- For emergency responders: Use personal protection recommended in Section 8.

Environmental precautions

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Prevent product from entering drains. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. The product is insoluble and floats on water. Do not allow into any sewer, on the ground or into any body of water.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

- Methods for containment: Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Cover powder spill with plastic sheet or tarp to minimise spreading. Dike far ahead of liquid spill for later disposal.

- Methods for cleaning up: Use personal protective equipment as required. Take up mechanically, placing in appropriate containers for disposal. Clean contaminated surface thoroughly. Cover powder spill with plastic sheet or tarp to minimise spreading and keep powder dry. Avoid creating dust. Soak up with inert absorbent material. Dam up. Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers. Sweep up and shovel into suitable containers for disposal. After cleaning, flush away traces with water. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

- Advice on safe handling: Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Use personal protective equipment as required. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. Use with local exhaust ventilation.

- General Hygiene Considerations: When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing is recommended. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

- Storage Conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Keep out of the reach of children. Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep in properly labelled containers. Protect from direct sunlight.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls

- Engineering Controls: Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Showers. Eyewash stations.

Personal protective equipment

- Eye/face protection: Tight sealing safety goggles. Face protection shield.

- Hand Protection: Wear protective Neoprene™ gloves. Thickness = 5 mm. Breakthrough time = 480 m. For operations where prolonged or repeated skin contact may occur, impervious gloves should be worn. Ensure that the breakthrough time of the glove material is not exceeded. Refer to glove supplier for information on breakthrough time for specific gloves.

- Skin and body protection: Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.

- Respiratory protection: Use certified respiratory protection equipment meeting EU requirements (89/656/EEC, 89/686/EEC ), or equivalent, when respiratory risks cannot be avoided or sufficiently limited by technical means of collective protection or by measures, methods or procedures of work organisation.

Environmental exposure controls

Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained. Do not allow into any sewer, on the ground or into any body of water. Prevent product from entering drains.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: No data available.

Chemical stability: Stable under normal conditions.

Explosion data

- Sensitivity to Mechanical Impact: None.

- Sensitivity to Static Discharge: Fine dust dispersed in air, in sufficient concentrations, and in the presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

- Hazardous polymerization: Hazardous polymerization does not occur.

- Possibility of Hazardous Reactions: None under normal processing.

Conditions to avoid: Extremes of temperature and direct sunlight. Avoid creating dust. Dust can form an explosive mixture with air.

Incompatible materials: Incompatible with oxidising agents. Acids. Incompatible with strong acids and bases.

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon oxides. Hazardous metal fumes and oxides. Hydrocarbons.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

- Waste from Residues / Unused Products: Disposal should be in accordance with applicable regional, national and local laws and regulations.

- Contaminated packaging: Do not reuse container. Disposal should be in accordance with applicable regional, national and local laws and regulations.

- Waste codes / waste designations according to EWC / AVV: Waste codes should be assigned by the user based on the application for which the product was used.

- Other Information: Waste codes should be assigned by the user based on the application for which the product was used.
