Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point range of hydrocarbon waxes was determined to be 201 to > 700 ºC according to a non GLP compliant key study (Balazs, 2002b) performed in line with the standardised guidelines; OECD 103 and ASTM D6352-98 (Standard Test Method for Boiling Range Distribution of Petroleum Distillates in Boiling Range from 174 to 700ºC).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
201 °C

Additional information

The key study (Balazs, 2002b) is a non GLP compliant study which was performed according to standardised guidelines with a sufficient level of detail to assess the quality of the study. The test material was analysed using gas chromatography, as this method was better suited to the boiling range of the test material than the atmospheric distillation method outlined in OECD 103. Under the conditions of the test, the final boiling temperature was reported as a greater than value due to the limitations of the method. The study was performed to a good standard and was assigned a reliability score of 2 using the principles for assessing data quality as set out in Klimisch (1997).
