Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:
The PBT Assessment for 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trithione, trisodium salt (TMT) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2008).

Persistence

Evidence of P and vP properties

TMT showed no biodegradation in tests carried out according to guidelines OECD 302B, DEV H5/NEN 3235-5.3 and DIN EN ISO 11734. Thus, the test substance is considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation

Screening criteria

The log D of TMT was determined as 0.73, 0.01 and -1.55 for pH 4, 7, and 9, respectively (Calculation with ACD/LogD Suite Program).

Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity

Long-term toxicity testing with Daphnia magna resulted in a NOEC of 6.31 mg/L for TMT (OECD 211) and a NOEC = 7.8 mg/L for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (equivalent to OECD 201). Moreover, the test substance is not classified as CMR nor is there any other evidence for chronic toxicity according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (2nd ATP) based on the available data.

Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
