Additional information

Acute freshwater toxicity studies are available for fish, daphnia, and algae. Two studies are available for acute toxicity to fish, one conducted with Oncorhynchus mykiss, and one conducted with Lepomis macrochirus. Oncorhynchus mykiss was found to be the more sensitive of the species with an LC50 of 62 mg/L.

A single study is available for acute toxicity to Daphnia magna in which the 48 -hour EC50 was found to be 20.3 mg/L. A single study is also available for toxicity to the freshwater algae Selenestrum capricornutum. The 72 -hour EC50 for growth rate inhibition was found to be 7.8 mg/L and the NOEC was found to be 1.1 mg/L.

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test is also available for barium diboron tetraoxide. In a limit test conducted at 100 mg/L no significant inhibition was observed. As such, the 3 -hour NOEC is considered to be 100 mg/L and the EC50 is considered to be >100 mg/L.

As no hazard was identified in the chemical safety assessment performed according to Article 14(3) in connection with Annex I section 3 (Environmental Hazard Assessment), long-term aquatic toxicity tests are not considered necessary.
