Administrative data

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1999
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Given the low melting point, the method used is likely to be adequate. The study does not specify whether the study was conducted in accord with OECD, ISO or ASTM guidlines nor whether it followed GLP guidelines.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Deviations:
not applicable
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Measurement was attempted by placing a small capped glass vial about half full of sample liquid into a refrigerated cold bath . This was a 4 mL vial containing approximately 2 mL of sample liquid. The refrigerated bath was a Julabo Model F83 filled with 3M Novec 7500 bath fluid. The F83 bath can go down to -75 deg C. The sample was held at this temperature for at least 1 hour, probably several hours, but did not freeze, so freezing point or melting point could not be determined by this method.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:

Results and discussion

Melting / freezing point
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -75 °C
Remarks on result:
other: PBSF remains fluid and very pourable down to at least -75 °C (-103 °F).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The freezing point of PBSF was not observed down to -75 °C
Executive summary:

The freezing point of PBSF was not observed down to -75 °C. A freezing point measurement was attempted, but the material remains fluid and very pourable down to at least -75 °C. It is unknown whether this method followed an OECD guideline or whether it was conducted under GLP standards. The method reported demonstrates that PBSF has a freezing point lower than any environmentally relevant temperature. Therefore this study is classified as reliable with restrictions.
