- Conclusions:
- Both column elution and flask method were employed in order to determine the water solubility of Iodobis(trophenylphosphino)copper.
Both methods showed acceptable reproducibility and correlation: maximum solubility in the column elution method was 0.25 mg/L test item (flow rate 12.47 ml/h, mean concentration); this value was confirmed in the flask method, but inly three samples showed this high concentration. The other samples lay much lower (at approx. 0.13 mg/L test item). This behaviour could not be explained.
The results of the column elution method were acceptable: relative standard deviation of both flow rates were < 10%; the variation between the flow rates was 22.9%. These variations are normal for test items with low solubilities.
The solubility of the test item at equilibrium is staed as 0.25 mg/L and was calculated from the mean Cu concentration at flow rate 2 (12.5 mL/h) and the copper content of the test item was stated by the sponsor.
No observations arousing doubts concerning the accuracy of the results and the validity of the study were made. - Executive summary:
The column elution method was chosen for the determination of the water solubility as the sponsor had stated solubilty as < 10 mg/L. This was verified in a pre-test.
As the test item consists of an organo-copper complex, determination of Cu in the aqueous solution per AAS was performed for analysing the test item concentration in the fractions of the column elution method.
Two experiments using the column elution method were conducted (temperature range 23.2 - 27 .0°C). The two flow rates showed a variation of < 30%. Therefore, the higher valus (determined with the smaller flow rate) is reported.
Additionally, an experiment was performed using the flask method (temperature range: 20.5 - 21.2°C). In this experiment, the values which were found in the column elution method were confirmed.
Water solubility of the test item is stated as 0.25 mg/L (taking into account the copper content of the test item and the mean value of the second flow of the column elution method).
