Description of key information
Appearance:
Based on available data from authoritative database the chemical Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was observed to be an organic liquid in appearance.
Freezing point:
Based on prediction done from CompTox Chemistry Dashboard which uses OPERA (OPEn (quantitative) structure-activity Relationship Application) V1.02 and NICEATM models to predict the freezing point of chemical.
The free-zing point of chemical Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was estimated to be in the range of 65 degree C to 89 degree C.
Boiling point:
Based on available data from secondary literatures, the decomposition temperature of chemicalPentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was determined to be >200 degree C.
Density:
Based on available data from safety data sheet ,the density of chemical Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was determined to be >1 g/cm3 at 15 degree C.
Particle Size Distribution:
The study does not need to be conducted because the test chemical is marketed or used in a non- solid or granular form.Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was observed to be liquid. Hence, Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was considered for waiver.
Vapour Pressure:
Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE.The estimated vapor pressure of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized at 25 degwas 1.413E-010 Pa.
Partition Coefficient:
KOWWIN v 1.68 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the octanol water partition coefficient ofPentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized.
The estimated log Pow of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was 12.56
Based on this value, it can be concluded thatPentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized is hydrophobic in nature which is also supported by its low solubility in water.
Water Solubility:
WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized.
The estimated water solubility of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized at 25 deg C was 3.245E-009mg/l.
Based on the results, it can be concluded thatPentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized is highly insoluble in water
.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized (68515-88-8) is used as an additive in the manufacture of engine oils and industrial lubricants,. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
From the available data of material safety data sheet (MSDS) the flash point of Pentene, 2,4,4-trimethyl-, sulfurized (68515-88-8) was determined to be 150 degree C.Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the substance was considered to be non-flammable.
Autoflammability:
Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Pentene, 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-, sulfurized was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosivenss:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
