Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

In case of skin contact: Wash with water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.

In case of eye contact: Wash the eyes immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a specialist.

In case of ingestion: Seek medical advice immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Appropriate fire-fighting resource(s) : Flood with water.

Specific fire hazards : In case of a large fire, fight it at  distance and evacuate if necessary.

Depending on decomposition conditions, the main products generated are toxic gases: NH3, HCl, NOx,…

Special equipment for the protection of fire-fighters : Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

Extinguishing waters should be collected to avoid contamination of the environment.

Accidental release measures

Individual precautions : Handle the dispersed product wearing protective gloves and glasses, and in case of dust, a mask (P2 type)

Measures after leaks or accidental spillage : Move away incompatible products (organic materials, reducing agents). Collect the product by mechanical means and destroy it, avoid shocks and friction.

Precautions for the protection of the environment : Avoid contaminating the environment via the sewers or water sources.

Handling and storage

Depending on Ammonium Perchlorate granulometry, handling and storage may require a special safety study to ensure that the industrial operating conditions are not likely to cause the ammonium perchlorate to detonate.

Handling :

Handle away from heat and humidity sources (if possible in covered and well ventilated premises).

Limit shocks and friction.

Do not use on an asphalted area

Avoid contact with incompatible substances (organic materials and reducing agents, especially fuels, oils, greases, etc.)

Avoid contact with eyes and skin (wear appropriate personal protective equipment : glasses, gloves and mask in case of dust)

Prevent any contamination of the environment via the sewers or water sources

Grinding ammonium perchlorate can modify its physico-chemical characteristics : depending on granulometry, it may become more liable to detonate. Before grinding, consult SNPE Matériaux Energétiques to obtain the appropriate information.

Storage :

Do not store with reducing agents, organic materials, especially fuels, oils, greases, etc.

Do not store with explosive substances that may detonate

Do not store close to a heat source

Do not store on an asphalted area

It is recommended that drums of ground ammonium perchlorate are stored in small groups, to ensure that there is no detonation propagation. They should also be protected physically from any high velocity fragment impact

Recommended packaging materials : Store in original closed containers in areas that are specially designated for storage of compatible oxidizers.

Unsuitable packaging materials : Avoid using any other type of container.

If there has to be a change of container : Do not use metal containers made of metals that are reducing agents with a low melting point, such as aluminium, or plastic containers (even self-extinguishing) and any combustible material: cardboard, wooden pallets, cellulose film.

Exposure controls / personal protection

french occupationnal exposure limit: 10mg/m3 (8h) for inhalables dusts and 5mg/m3 (8h) for alveolar dusts

personal protective equipment: wear dust mask (P2 type) when dust risk, protective gloves, protective clothing and safety googles

hygienic measures:  do not eat, drink or smoke during work, avoid contact with skin and eyes; wash one's hand regularly and clean protcetive equipment and working clothing.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: stable under normal conditions of uses

conditions to avoid:

avoid any ignition source, shocks and frictions

there is an explosion risk in case of cook-off at the pressure under 2MPa.

materials to avoid: mix with reducing agents, organics increase sensitivity and recativity

Disposal considerations

do not release into sewers or in natural environment.

washes have to be destroyed in authorized facilities, in compliance with wastes regulations
