The test item changed in appearance under the conditions used in the determinationfrom an extremely pale yellow liquid to a yellow/white crystalline ‘sticky’ solid. See Discussion below.
Discussion
On completion of the definitive test, the test item was observed to have changed. This was discussed with the Sponsor who suggested that it was polymerization on being heated. The test item was stored at approximately 4 °C for this reason. Due to the reaction of the test item, the preliminary measurements (45 to 55 °C) were used to extrapolate the vapor pressure to 25 °C to be able to make a comparison with the definitive test results as the preliminary test was the first heating cycle the test item was exposed to. There was no significant difference and demonstrated that Runs 1 to 6 were acceptable to be used to determine the test result. It was decided that the test result would be a limit value based on the highest individual result (Run 5) to act as a worst case scenario. The definitive runs were calculated based on their measurements from 50 to 55 °C as the measurements from 45 to 49 °C were mostly considered inconsistent
