Description of key information

According to theoretical considerations based on chemical structure, trimellitic anhydride does not to possess explosive or oxidising properties. Trimellitic anhydride is unlikely to undergo rapid decomposition accompanied by the evolution of gases or release of heat and therefore does not present a risk of explosion.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on chemical structure, trimellitic anhydride does not contain any of the groups associated with explosive properties. The molecular weight of TMA is 192 and the calculated oxygen balance value is -125%. Trimellitic anhydride is not classified for transport as an explosive or oxidising substance. Trimellitic anhydride is predicted not to possess explosive or oxidising properties. TMA is unlikely to undergo rapid decomposition accompanied by the evolution of gases or release of heat and therefore does not present a risk of explosion.
