First-aid measures
- Following inhalation: Remove immediately to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth. Maintain airway and blood pressure. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Keep affected person calm, warm and at rest. Call a physician.
- Following skin contact: Immediately flush the skin with plenty of water and soap while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists get medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
- Following eye contact: Flush immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Get medical assistance.
- Following ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. If the person is conscious, immediately seek medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.
Fire-fighting measures
Explosion: Fine dust dispersed in air in sufficient concentrations, and in the presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard.
Suitable Extinguishing Media:
- Suitable: Water spray, dry chemical, alcohol foam, or carbon dioxide.
Fire Fighting Procedures: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards:
- Vapour may travel considerable distance to source of ignition and flash back.
- Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions.
Combustion Products: Irritating or toxic substances may be emitted upon thermal decomposition. Thermal decomposition products may include carbon oxides and iodine fumes.
Accidental release measures
- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Sweep up and containerise for reclamation or disposal. Vacuuming or wet sweeping may be used to avoid dust dispersal.
Handling and storage
- Storage: Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Protect from physical damage. Separate from oxidising materials. Store in the dark. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust, solids); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Eye Protection: Use chemical safety goggles and/or full face shield where dusting or splashing of solutions is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.
- Skin Protection: Avoid skin contact. Impervious rubber gloves and clothing to prevent repeat or prolonged skin contact. Replace or repair impervious clothing that has developed leaks. Wash thoroughly after handling.
- Respiratory Protection: Use respirators and components tested and approved under appropriate government standards such as NIOSH (US)or CEN (EU). If the exposure limit is exceeded and engineering controls are not feasible, wear a supplied air, full-facepiece respirator, airlined hood, or full-facepiece selfcontained breathing apparatus. Breathing air quality must meet the requirements of the OSHA respiratory protection standard (29CFR1910.134).
Stability and reactivity
- Conditions to Avoid: Heat, flame, sources of ignition, light and incompatibles.
- Incompatibility: High temperatures, oxidising agents.
- Hazardous Reactions/Decomposition Products: Burning may produce toxic iodine vapours
- Hazardous Polymerisation: Will not occur.
Disposal considerations
- Disposal Methods: Dispose of in accordance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations. Contact a licensed professional waste disposal service to dispose of this material. This combustible material may be burned in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber. Observe all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
