Interim staff – REACH 2018 registration

Are you a hands-on type of a person interested in working in an international environment? Do you have experience in supporting financial or regulatory processes? Are you also fluent in English? If so, now is your chance to see first-hand how the European chemicals legislation works!

A historic moment of the EU regulation dealing with chemicals, REACH, is approaching: the last deadline for EU/EEA companies to register their chemicals is on 31 May 2018. This deadline concerns those companies manufacturing or importing substances in low volumes, between 1-100 tonnes a year. After this, all existing chemicals on the EU/EEA market will have been registered, completing the information gathering exercise that started back in 2008 with pre-registration.

ECHA expects to receive up to 60 000 registrations with information on up to 25 000 substances – this is three times more than for either of the previous deadlines in 2010 and 2013. Also, as a significant proportion of the companies are expected to be inexperienced, we anticipate to receive more than 30 000 questions.


The work

By law, ECHA needs to check the completeness of each incoming registration dossier before assigning a registration number, which allows the company to continue legally on the market. This work involves verifying some aspects of the dossiers manually. In addition, ECHA needs to support companies to fulfil their obligations by answering questions or providing support materials.


Hiring through temporary work agencies

To cope with the temporary peaks in the workload, ECHA may require additional temporary staff that will be hired through our contract with temporary work agencies based in Finland.

The framework contract in cascade used for this service includes ManpowerGroup Oy (first in cascade), Adecco Oy (second in cascade) and Opteam Oy (third in cascade). In practice, ECHA will first contact Manpower to provide the necessary interim staff and only turn to Adecco and Opteam if Manpower cannot deliver on ECHA’s needs.
