EC50 (48 h) 380 mg/L for Daphnia magna (EU Method C.2)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two experimental studies are available investigating the short-term toxicity of triacetin (CAS 102-76-1) to aquatic invertebrates.

The key study was performed according to EU Method C.2 (GLP) with the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna (Scholz, 1995). Test substance concentrations up to 1000 mg/L (nominal) were tested in a static exposure regime. After 48 h an EC50 of 380 mg/L was calculated indicating low toxicity of triacetin to aquatic invertebrates. This result was supported by an additional study (EC50 (48 h) 770 mg/L; MoE, 1997). However, this study was rated reliability 4, since relevant information on the performance of the study are missing in the available report.
