Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information

Degradation

Biodegradation: readily biodegradable, failing the 10-day window (65% and 81% after 28 d and 60 d, OECD 301F)

Hydrolysis: t1/2 > 14 d at pH 4-10

Bioaccumulation

Log Kow = 8.1 (QSAR)

Aquatic acute toxicity

Fish: LC50 > 1000 mg/L (nominal loading rate, OECD 203, Danio rerio)

Aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 202, Daphnia magna)

Algae/aquatic plant: ErC50 (72 h) > 31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent) and > 29.5 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent), (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus)

Aquatic chronic toxicity

Fish: no data available

Aquatic invertebrates: NOEC (21 d) ≥ 10 mg/L (nominal, OECD 211, Daphnia magna)

Algae/aquatic plant: ErC10 (72 h) ≥ 31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent) and 20.91 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent), (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus)

Classification according to CLP

Hexadecyl(trimethoxy)silane (CAS 16415-12-6) is rapidly degradable. Acute toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae). No effects causing 50% mortality to aquatic invertebrates (EC50) or 50% inhibition to growth rate (ErC50) for aquatic algae were detected up to the limit of water solubility. Chronic aquatic toxicity data indicate no hazard within the range of water solubility. Therefore, Hexadecyl(trimethoxy)silane (CAS 16415-12-6) is not classified and labeled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
