Description of key information

a) ‘Zinc 2-mercaptobenzothiazole' is classified as not readily combustible solid when tested according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (Currenta 2010).
b) In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.
Experience in production and handling: substance is known to be stable at room temperature.
c) In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted. In the compound, zinc is bonded to sulphur. Reaction with water will produce a mercapto compound and Zink hydroxide. Both products are not gaseous compounds. Therefore, this is not a substance which will form flammable gases in contact with water.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

ZMBT is not readily combustible solid, no pyrophoric property, and is not a substance which will form flammable gases in contact with water; and hence no classification according to both Directive 67/548/EEC and GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
