Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Acute toxicity data were available for fish, Daphnia and algae. Acute endpoints included an LC50 of 30 mg/L for rainbow trout (96- hr), 37.2 mg/L (48 -hr) for Daphnids and 49.7 mg/L (72 -hr growth inhibition) with algae. These values fall between 10 - 100 mg/L which indicates that diisobutyle ketone is only slight toxic to aquatic organisms.

This aliphatic ketone has a low log Kow of 3.71, a predicted BCF value of 130 L/kg and is readily biodegradable. Diisobutyl ketone s is expected to be effectively removed during activated sludge sewage treatment and is not expected to occupy the water, sediment or soil compartments. The risk assessment shows that the PEC/PNEC ratio is clearly <1, indicating no need for further information or testing. According to REACH Annex IX requirements, long-term toxicity testing shall only be considered when the chemical safety assessment indicates the need for further investigation. Therefore, long-term testing in aquatic species (fish and daphnid) can be waived for diisobutyl ketone.
