Description of key information

Annex IX column 2 - these studies do not need to be conducted if direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely.
SODIUM ETHYL XANTHATE at the concentrations 1000 mg/kg dry soil in the 4-week experiment did not cause mortality of the adult earthworms.
SODIUM ETHYL XANTHATE at the concentrations of 560 and 1000 mg/kg dry soil had an impact on reproduction of the earthworms.

Additional information

Sodium ethyl xanthate (CAS# 140-90-9) at the concentration fom 18 to 1000 mg/kg dry soil did not cause mortality of the adult earthworm after 4 weeks.No changesin the appearance (morphology) and behaviour of the earthworms were noticed.

After 8 weeks of the experiment, it was concluded that SODIUM ETHYL XANTHATE at the concentrations of 560 and 1000 mg/kg dry soil had an impact on reproduction of the earthworms.

The concentration of the test substans caused the following reduction in the number of juveniles produced within the exposure period:

 (EC10)is equal to283.8 mg/kg dry soil.

 (EC25)is equal to652.4 mg/kg dry soil.

 (EC50)ishigher than 1000 mg/kg dry soil.

 

The lowest concentration at which the test item is observed to have a statistically significant effect on reproduction (LOEC) is equal to 560mg/kg dry soil.

The highest concentration at which the test item is observed to have no statistically significant effects on reproduction(NOEC)is equal to 320 mg/kg dry soil.
